<random> Dictatorship naturally arises out of democracy, and the most aggravated form of tyranny and slavery out of the most extreme liberty.

Plato

@@@

The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy you vote first and take orders later; in a dictatorship you don't have to waste your time voting.

Charles Bukowski

@@@ The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.

Winston Churchill

@@@

If we desire a society of peace, then we cannot achieve such a society through violence. If we desire a society without discrimination, then we must not discriminate against anyone in the process of building this society. If we desire a society that is democratic, then democracy must become a means as well as an end.

Bayard Rustin

@@@

Democracy must be built through open societies that share information. When there is information, there is enlightenment. When there is debate, there are solutions. When there is no sharing of power, no rule of law, no accountability, there is abuse, corruption, subjugation and indignation.

Atifete Jahjaga

@@@ The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy you vote first and take orders later; in a dictatorship you don't have to waste your time voting.

Charles Bukowski

@@@

Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

@@@

In a democracy the poor will have more power than the rich, because there are more of them, and the will of the majority is supreme.

Aristotle

@@@ In a few decades, the relationship between the environment, resources and conflict may seem almost as obvious as the connection we see today between human rights, democracy and peace.

Wangari Maathai

@@@

A healthy democracy requires a decent society; it requires that we are honorable, generous, tolerant and respectful.

Charles W. Pickering

@@@

Democracy is when the indigent, and not the men of property, are the rulers.

Aristotle

@@@

What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?

Mahatma Gandhi

@@@

It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.

Winston Churchill

@@@ Jeans represent democracy in fashion.

Giorgio Armani

@@@

To make democracy work, we must be a notion of participants, not simply observers.

Louis L'Amour

@@@ The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all.

John F. Kennedy

@@@

There can be no daily democracy without daily citizenship.

Ralph Nader

@@@

No man is good enough to govern another man without that other's consent.

Abraham Lincoln

@@@ Democracy substitutes election by the incompetent many for appointment by the corrupt few.

George Bernard Shaw

@@@ An eye for an eye would leave the world blind

Martin Luther King

@@@ The world belongs to those who think and act with it, who keep a finger on its pulse.

William R. Inge
