POLICY ANALYST, ITALIAN PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF MINISTERS

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY: Alessia Clemente is a Policy Analyst at the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers. Her research focuses on the European Neighborhood Policy, Transatlantic Relations and Italian Foreign Policy. Prior of working as an analyst, she worked at the Voluntary Service and International Relations Office of the Italian Civil Protection Department since 2002. Participating, among other tasks, in several emergency operations carried out abroad. In particular she has participated in the coordination of many relief programs in Sri Lanka, following the 2004 Tsunami, Lebanon, and the United States-New Orleans and several huge events(the Funeral of the Pope John Paul II). She has had extensive experience in the international and humanitarian fields. She has worked with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers for more than 10 years.

During her service at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, she had been officially entrusted by the former Italian Foreign Affairs Minister of working in the E.U. Italian Mission in Brussels as Attaché of the Ambassador for the issues related to Civil Protection. Her tasks also included the drawing up of useful documents for CoRePer (Committee of Permanent Representatives) meetings, Council of Ministers meetings, should Civil Protection issues be tackled within CAGRE (the Council of General Affairs and External Relations of all the Foreign Affairs Ministers of the E.U). Furthermore, she played the role of participating in the monthly meetings of the Civil Protection Groups held at the E.U. Council Secretariat.

She is familiar with the European Parliament since, in 2002, she had been one of the four Italian winners of the scholarship, named after Robert Schumann, for the paid traineeships at the European Parliament in the specific sector of journalism.

Alessia Clemente has contributed to specific scientific publications and support lectures at many Universities and Research Institutes in Italy as well as abroad. In 2008 she was awarded the Cruz de Protecctiòn Civil en su Tercera Clase, the highest level of title among those conferred to civilians from the civil protection of Venezuela, internationally recognized for merits on humanitarian operations.

Alessia Clemente has a Degree in Economics and Law – Politics of International Relations, Phd level of studies in European Law, M.A. in Management of Public Policies. She is fluent in English, French and German
