For the purposes of the Reinventing Democracy in the Digital Era project, this term is used to support participants to come up with any processes that takes place in any of the traditional systems of governance. According to Wkipedia:

Governance refers to "all of processes of governing, whether undertaken by a government, market or network, whether over a family, tribe, formal or informal organization or territory and whether through the laws, norms, power or language."[1] It relates to "the processes of interaction and decision-making among the actors involved in a collective problem that lead to the creation, reinforcement, or reproduction of social norms and institutions."[2]

For the project, the wish is that participants on one hand remain focused on larger systems such as the country government, but at the same time they can be inspired by processes that take place in smaller systems, such as local or urban governments, large organizations of public interest etc.
