Bengisu Çolak is a core participant of the Reinventing Democracy in the Digital Era - Middle Eastern.

Her Peer Empowerment and Support Mentors is Teresa Tourvas.


Bengisu Çolak was born in 1992 in the north of Turkey Amasya/Merzifon. It’s a small and cute town. Bengisu Çolak has two elder sisters. Bengisu Çolaks mother is a retired nurse and her father has a local bus company. Her big sister works as genetic biologist and she works at New York University. Her other sister is a psychologist and she is working for protection of women. She has a daugter and a boy. Bengisu Çolak used to take care of her sister’s children.


Bengisu Çolak went to primary school and high school in their small town. She used to play with her peers. It was good and safe environment for children. She raised as free child when she was living with her parents. Because in her town people knows each other and she felt secure there.


Then she entered to the university and she moved to another city which was far away from her town. She started to study archeology. She really loves her subject of study. In her department they were quite active and they went field work many times. They built a house by using mad brick. It was so experimental. It was like a house from neolithic period.


Bengisu Çolak joined excavation twice at Metropolis Ancient City in Torbalı/İzmir. She made a drawing from ceramic. It was about the Greek period. She joined to the international building organization in Germany. She experienced an ecological life and they built some owen and little house with her colleagues. It was an amazing experience for her because she had a lot of friends from different countries. she still have contact with them. Some of those friends visited her in Turkey.


Now she is graduate student of archeology department and she is doing an internship at non-profit organization. Her internship is about refugees. The NGO is called Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants.
