Ano Surmava is a core participant of the Middle East and North African (MENA) Initiative. Her Peer Empowerment and Support Mentors is Teresa Tourvas.

Ano Surmava is from Kutaisi, Georgia. I was born on 1994, 6 december. I graduated Tbilisi State University Bachelor's Degree, Faculty of Humanities and sience of art. Ano Surmava also went through the course Projects of Culture Managements of Korneli Kekelidze national Centre. My professional dimension Is actively linked with the Arts and Humanities. This discipline strives to understand works of art, architecture and design from a variety of perspectives, So, accordingly part of my business I also was involved in museum activities.

During the university studies Ano Surmava was working in Georgian National Museum, At the National Museum and in Giorgi Leonidze Museum ( as a tour guide of the exhibition and as a staff of foundation). I was also involved in the scientific circles of the university. She also worked in the service area. after graduation of university . I decided to return to my hometown and I am devoting my energy and time to a very important and difficult point, like providing information and support to the LGBT community and youth (in Kutaisi).

Now she is working at Identoba (LGBTQ NGO) and working for delivering of educational activities for community and local youth. Because of the socio-economic situation created in the country and due to the limited free speech, she is actively involved in the ongoing political processes and her choice where she works today causes from in the closed and restricted spaces where there is no free word.

She currently work in the NGO Identoba, aiming to overcome homophobia and misogyny in the region, raising public awareness in civil activism, knowledge of their rights and their use in practice in order to make society more engaged in the process of forming a democratic state. She is trying to be the most active in the global context of activism and she actively support the protection of labor rights of people employed in our country. She was a member of the Student Movement Auditorium 115, whose fundamental demand was to increase the quality of education in our university and in general in the country. She is also interested in ecological problems, in this regard I have a volunteer experience with the participation of the Green Festival organized by the young Georgian Greens, created a slogan Make Green Order. It is important for me to be involved in international methods of struggle for democracy development.
